Our kitchen ladies are truly amazing! They have taken on the preparation of an extra hundred or so lunches every day now all our younger children are entitled to a free school meal without batting an eyelid. They are offering a wide choice (wider than most other primary schools) of delicious meals and are working so hard Mrs Wheeler has had to join them as an additional member of the catering team. Don’t forget that, every day, children can choose between a hot meal, a cold meal from the salad bar or a (very popular) packed lunch. Why wouldn’t you?
The school has taken the opportunity to run its own kitchen, sourcing locally produced food and ingredients wherever possible. Healthy eating is encouraged with the addition of our new salad bar, cold lunches or a healthy packed lunch. Also a nutritious hot lunch is available every day.
A Design-A-Lunch competition was organised to involve the children in the new venture. Megan Parker and Sharna Ward designed the winning menu. The Diss Express came to visit the school in April 2014 to cover the event.
The 6/5 children used the school kitchen to bake cookies as part of their DT topic on Mountains. The cookies were to provide refreshments for the Mountain Top Cafe.
The 3/4 children as part of their Literacy work last term had been looking at recipes as part of their descriptive writing. They wrote letters to Mary Berry about party planning. Cakes were made and baked in the school kitchen and sugar craft decorations made by the children were added.
